NATURAL ASTROLOGY

The sky has always been a calendar.
Not a fortune teller. Not a system of fixed fates.
A living map of when to act, when to rest,
and what kind of energy is rising around you right now.

This is what Sharyn with a Why calls natural astrology –
astrology grounded in what is actually happening in the sky
and in the season, not in what is predicted to happen to you.

Not fortune-telling. Something older than that.

Most people arrive at astrology one of two ways. Through curiosity. Or through a moment when the horoscope said something that felt uncomfortably accurate.

Natural astrology begins somewhere else entirely. It begins with observation. With the understanding that the moon affects the tides, the seasons shape the body, and the sky has been a working calendar for every culture that ever lived close enough to the land to notice.

The question natural astrology asks is not: what will happen? It asks: what kind of energy is present right now, and how can I work with it rather than against it?

That is a different question. And it leads somewhere different.

THE SKY AS A WORKING FRAMEWORK

the sun, the moon, and the breath

The sun moves through the twelve signs of the zodiac across the year. Each sign carries a different elemental quality – fire, earth, air, water – and a different quality of energy. Cardinal signs initiate. Fixed signs sustain. Mutable signs release.

When Anchoring the Exhale is shaped by the current solar energy, this is what that means. The breathwork does not perform the sign. It breathes with the quality the sign carries. A fire session asks something more activating of the breath. A water session asks something more releasing. Earth grounds. Air opens.

The sky is not controlling the session. It is informing it.

THE LUNAR CYCLE

twenty-nine days of natural rhythm

The moon moves through its full cycle in approximately twenty-nine days. New moon to full moon – gathering, building, expanding. Full moon to new moon – releasing, resting, returning.

This is not mystical. It is observable. And for anyone who has ever noticed that their energy shifts across the month that some weeks feel expansive and others feel like pulling through mud – the lunar cycle offers a framework that makes
sense of what the body already knows.

In the TEA and Business branch, the lunar cycle structures the mYq programme: a rest week at each new moon, held deliberately. Not because it is poetic. Because the body needs it.

ECLIPSE WINDOWS AND SHADOW WORK

when the cosmos casts a shadow

Twice a year, the sun, earth, and moon align. Solar and lunar eclipses mark the opening and closing of what Sharyn describes as a natural invitation to shadow work.

When the moon stands between earth and sun, a shadow falls. This is not metaphor. It is observable astronomy. The FIRE programme – Focus, Identify, Release, Expand – is timed to these windows deliberately. Not for atmosphere, but because the eclipse window creates a genuine shift in collective energy that the practice can work with.

FIRE is belief work combined with breathwork. Gentle, but honest. The kind of work that asks you to look at what is quietly shaping your choices, and then breathe through the finding.

THE MERCURY PROJECT

cosmic project management

Mercury completes a full cycle in approximately 116 days – just under four months. Sharyn uses this as a natural project management framework. Winter: review and release. Spring: curiosity and planning. Summer: full momentum. Autumn: harvest and completion.

Mercury retrograde in this framework is not a warning. It is winter. A time for review, not initiation. Working with the cycle rather than against it is the practice.
