BREATHWORK

Birdsong opens the space. Breath moves through it. Silence closes it. Whatever form the session takes – an hour on a Wednesday evening, a three-hour immersive – with the Celtic trees, or a quiet gathering at the turning of a season – those three things run through all of it.

If you have never breathed with us before, the Midweek Exhale is where you begin. Free. Every Wednesday. Come as you are.

WHY BIRDSONG AND SILENCE

Every session at The Exhale Awakening begins with birdsong and ends in silence. This is not decoration. It is structure.

Studies suggest that listening to birdsong may lower cortisol – the body’s primary stress hormone — and some research indicates that the benefits can persist for up to eight hours after just a few minutes of listening. The mechanism researchers describe is soft fascination: the birdsong captures attention gently, without demand, giving an overloaded nervous system permission to rest. The deeper reason is older than any study. Birdsong has always meant safety. Our nervous systems still carry this knowing, older than language, older than thought. When the birds are singing, something in the body begins to settle.

Silence works differently. Neuroscience suggests that the brain grows new cells in the hippocampus during periods of stillness – not during stimulation or learning, but in quiet. Our nervous systems are always scanning the soundscape, assessing safety or threat from every background noise and notification. Silence gives that scanning permission to stop. Not because the threats have been removed, but because the input has. What follows is not emptiness. It is the body beginning to do the work it cannot do when the world is loud.

This is why every session ends there. In the silence, the breathwork settles. Something is tended.

Why birdsong is woven through every TEA session – and every TEA training.

And why silence is not empty space – it is where the body does its quietest work

What our clients have to say

“I’ve attended a number of The Exhale Awakening Midweek Pause sessions now, and I absolutely love how thoughtfully they are structured. The gentle birdsong, guided breathwork, and silent pauses create the perfect space for relaxation and deep rest. I usually drift off somewhere, which is unusual as it takes a lot for me to get out of my head. These sessions allow me not only to settle my busy mind, but also to reconnect with myself in a really meaningful way.”

Jane Beverley Therapies

“The birdsong was exquisite and I look forward to the next 8 hours of balanced energy and restful sleep as a result of accepting your reminder to breathe into awareness. It was so very gratefully accepted.”

Untie the String

“This was a beautiful experience. I felt my mind and body relaxing into the rhythm of the silence and birdsong. I had space, but felt completely held. The flow of the breathwork was amazing and just what I needed mid week.”
