As you learn, so you grow

Breathwork Facilitator Training.

There is a way to learn breathwork facilitation that tends the whole of you – not just the techniques. This is that way.

Something has been asking.

Maybe you’ve been breathing consciously for a while now. Maybe for years. You know what it feels like when a room shifts – when someone exhales and something releases. You’ve felt it in yourself more times than you can count.

And quietly, perhaps for longer than you’ve admitted, a thought has been forming. What if I could hold this for others?

This page is for that thought. Not to press it into a decision, but to give it a little room to breathe.

What makes The Exhale Awakening different is not the curriculum. It is what sits beneath the curriculum. We don’t just train facilitators in breathwork. We train them to tend themselves – to know their own energy, their own edges, and their own seasonal rhythms. Because if a facilitator is rooted in themselves, they hold something that no amount of technique can manufacture.

That’s the root. That’s what everything else grows from.

There are two ways in. Both lead to the same place.

The Breath Coach pathway in our own words.

And the Facilitator Apprenticeship – what it actually means to train this way.

Two teachers. One formation.

Sharyn with a Why and Marie Doherty are the co-founders of The Exhale Awakening. Between them they bring decades of experience in breathwork, somatic and trauma-informed practice, and the craft of holding space for others.

They don’t just teach the training. They live it. Every programme they offer draws on the same daily practice they ask of their students. You train alongside two people who are still, genuinely, in the work themselves.

The dual-teacher model is not a feature. It is the structure. Two very different sets of gifts. Two very different life experiences. One cohort. A quality of formation that no single teacher can offer.

Four things that make this training whole.

Birdsong is medicine, not atmosphere.

Studies show listening to birdsong measurably lowers cortisol and may support mental wellbeing for up to eight hours after just a few minutes of exposure. The mechanism is soft fascination: gentle attention without demand.

The deeper reason is evolutionary: birdsong has always meant safety to the nervous system. Your body still carries this knowing. It is older than language.

This is why birdsong opens every session we hold and every training we lead. Not as backdrop. As a deliberate signal that it is safe to arrive, to soften, to exhale.

Silence is active rest.

The brain grows new cells in the hippocampus during silence —
not during stimulation, not when we are learning or being
productive, but in stillness. The nervous system, always
scanning the soundscape for safety or threat, finds in silence
permission to stop scanning. Not because the threats have been
removed, but because the input has.

This is not a detail of the training. It is woven into its
architecture. Every session, every retreat day, every
supervised practice includes silence. Deliberately. Because
you cannot guide someone toward a safety signal you haven’t
experienced yourself.
